Feelings

Hey Team CareGivers (TCG Family and Friends)!
I’ve concluded that feelings are real and we have to deal with them, but they are not a reliable guide for life.
You can’t always trust them, and yet, you don’t want to ignore them.
It’s extra difficult not to rely on feelings these days. Primarily, we resort to embracing feelings and perceptions
when the information that keeps bombarding us is confusing, inconsistent, and unreliable. Before we know it, we
are motivated by and wrestling with fear, anxiety, grief, and negative feelings.
The old song “Feelings” came to mind as I thought about these things this morning. The mix and unreliability of
basing a relationship and life are captured in lyrics that say “Feelings like I’ve never lost you, and feelings like I’ll
never have you again in my heart.” Sometimes feelings say that the loved one is gone, and sometimes like they
they’ve never left, and feelings of love are remembered and forgotten, and….Which is it? Sometimes feelings
can be or can make things so confusing.
One thing that I find helpful when feelings are ruling or ruining my life is to see how they match up with what is
true and reliable. God and His Word are true and reliable. “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace (I Cor. 14:33).”
If my feelings fit with the truth of the Bible and the character of God, then I find them to be reliable. Otherwise,
I could be trying to get my feelings to match my other feelings, which may be unreliable. I may choose or act unwisely
because I felt feelings that I’d never felt before because they felt like good feelings that I liked to feel. That kind of reliance
on good or bad feelings for life could be a mix of genuine love, or the onion rings you had for lunch.
I encourage you to check out your feelings and see what the biblical bases is for what you are feeling. Are they consistent
with the character of Christ?
In Him,
Wade
Feelings
Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.
Tears drops rolling down on my face,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.
Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never met you, girl;
You’ll never come again.
Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feel you again in my arms.
Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
And feelings like I’ll never have you
Again in my heart.
Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never met you, girl;
You’ll never come again.
Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
And feelings like I’ve never have
You again in my life.
Feelings, wo-o-o feelings
